Как вырезать string с помощью php?

Хочу взять только "numeric characters, between two or more".
Как можно это сделать?

$string = "Text messaging, or texting, is the act of composing and
 sending electronic messages, typically consisting of alphabetic and
 numeric characters, between two or more users of mobile 
devices, desktops/laptops, or other type of compatible computer. 
Text messages may be sent over a cellular network, 
or may also be sent via an Internet connection."

не с помощью substr, потому что может быть другой string.
скажем

$string = " sdvnosmdvs,d ;,db;'.sdb; numeric characters, between two or more mel,ber;,ber,b"

Смотря по какому принципу предполагается это делать
Если просто по вхождениям слов, то например регуляркой /(numeric.+more)/
Если по расстоянию, то например с помощью PHP функции substr указывая начало и количество необходимых символов
