Из-за чего периодичные зависания Ubuntu server 12.10?

Имеется сервер (файлопомойка) под управлением ubuntu. На ней настроено cron задание на еженочный бекап через rsync на внешний usb винчестер.
Без какой либо периодичности на утро я обнаруживаю сервер намертво зависшим. По сети не доступен на экране красуется некий лог:

Настроил проверку smart. в webmin System Information красуется сообщение:

Собственно вопрос: винчестер скоро умрет? Можно ли это предотвратить?
