Почему не работает varnishlog и как исправить?

дано: ubuntu server 18.04, varnish 6.2.2, как прокси на 80 порту, nginx на 8080.
На парочке других серверов все нормально, а тут что-то varnishlog, varnishtop не работают.
Выводы:
varnishd -V
