Вопрос такой, для чего может быть применён данный код? Какая фича может разрабатываться на сайте?

по запросу knex, гугл выдал только knex.js

Для всего чего угодно. Отыщи в коде объявление функции getKnex и посмотри что в ней и в каком она файле объявлена.

Может там будет что-типа такого
